Maija was born in Sweden on June 22, 1946, to Latvian parents.

Prior to her being diagnosed with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) in April 2013, she had a full life, never putting herself first, always trying to help others. Even when the condition was making her struggle she did her best to promote awareness, get involved in research programmes and finally donate her brain to the Cambridge bank. We will miss her terribly but take comfort that she is at last at peace.
